The Museum of Science wanted to make their famous Theater of Electricity a more accessible experience for visitors with visual impairments. To accomplish this goal, we worked with them to develop and design a tactile scale model of the theater’s enormous Van De Graaff generator and its various show props. We fabricated foam core mockups and went through several rounds of user testing and design iteration to determine the most effective design. We modeled the 3D components, designed the graphic surfaces, and coordinated with fabricators to get the scale model assembled and into the theater.
